Awesome WordPress Usage Infographic
WordPress has been the most prominent content management system (CMS) available for years now, but after seeing this incredible infographic from the Yoast website, even I was shocked at some of the numbers when it comes to the WordPress market dominance.
Of the top 100 blogs (as ranked by Technorati), an incredible 48% use WordPress as their CMS. That’s extremely impressive for a freely available content management system, and the stats only get more impressive. According to the infographic, between 20% and 25% of all new websites published in 2011 were built using the WordPress platform.
If we look at the CMS market share, we can see that WordPress boasts 53.8%, while their closest rivals Joomla and Drupal represent only 9.2% and 6.7% respectively. If we compare the amount of visits the .org sites received in March 2012 in the UK (data supplied by Experian Hitwise), we can see that WordPress received a phenomenal 1.4 million visits, compared to just 147,000 for Drupal and 130,000 for Joomla. In the United States the gulf is even larger, with WordPress.org receiving 2.4 million visits, compared to 107,000 for Drupal and only 60,000 for Joomla.
