Registering a domain
Domains can be registered from domain name registration companies. These companies provide interfaces to search for available domain names, and they offer a variety of domain name extensions that can be registered at the same time.

Are domain names for free or is it part of the package once you avail it from a web host? I'm really confused about it.

To make things easier for you, some hosting companies offer domain registration services along with their hosting services. You just need to make sure that it is registered under your name and you're the owner.

That is the most important thing to remember when you want to register a domain name. Always make sure that it is under your name and you know that you own it.
